About

As part of the GeoBridge community, we are organizing a two-day hands-on workshop on ArcGIS StoryMaps, a powerful approach for communicating research through interactive maps and visual narratives. StoryMaps allow you to combine maps, spatial data, images, and multimedia to present complex environmental data in an accessible and engaging way. This workshop focuses on translating spatial analyses into compelling visual narratives, bridging the gap between data, interpretation, and communication.

During the workshop, participants will learn how to design and build their own StoryMaps using ArcGIS StoryMaps, with a focus on effectively translating spatial analyses into compelling visual narratives.

This workshop is ideal for researchers, technicians and students interested in visualizing geospatial analyses, communicating research results, and developing interactive scientific storytelling tools.

Instructor

Stacy Shinneman

The workshop will be led by Stacy Shinneman (University of Amsterdam), who has extensive experience in developing StoryMaps for environmental research and science communication. Examples of StoryMaps developed by Stacy Shinneman are:

  • Arctic migratory birds pushed over the edge
  • Monitoring wildlife in the Amsterdam water supply dunes
  • Interactions between birds and offshore wind farms
  • Mapping the geomorphology of mountainous areas

Her ESRI StoryMap β€œArctic migratory birds pushed over the edge” has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition (Environment Category – Professional Track).
